MY DATE WITH SHREK
By Erin Brown

“Hello, may I speak to Erin?” I hear in a booming voice.
“Yes this is she.”
“Hello Erin, my name is Frank and your mom was kind enough to share your number with my mom.”
“Oh yeah, hi.”
That morning after church, my mom was approached by a sobbing woman who asked her to pray for her son. Of course mom agreed to pray and asked what was wrong with him.
“He’s single.”
That’s when somehow my number was given to this woman of sorrow.
“Is this your own number?”
“Um, yeah – I don’t have any roommates, if that’s what you mean.”
“Gee, that is so cool. I have two and we share the same line.”
“Oh well, with cell phones you don’t even really need a Lan line.”
“Yeah, I don’t have a cell, I’m pretty certain they are going to be a short-lived phase. Anyway, I head you’re an Eagle like me!”

A TASTE OF THAI
By Matt Knudsen

So I got food poisoning a couple few months ago. I ate at this restaurant in Hollywood called a Taste of Thai. It was in one of those mini strip malls that sit on almost every corner in Hollywood. You know the ones that have a Thai or Chinese restaurant, a wig shop, dry cleaner, a Santeria, a school uniform store, a car insurance place and a Winchells. And for all the stores in the little strip mall there are only like 6 parking spots. It was one of those places.

Frankenstein
By Erin Brown

I am the youngest of my parents 4 daughters.  In our own way, we are all beautiful, funny, successful, and for whatever reason single.  One Monday, after the noon mass Mom was approached by a tearful woman who asked her to “please pray for my son.”  Because of her desperate urgency Mom assumed her son was really ill or had a tragic accident.  She agreed to pray and asked “What’s wrong with your son?”  The woman burst into tears, embraced Mom and blurted, “He’s single!”  Managing to hold in her laugh Mom asked “How old is your son?”  “He’s Thirty Six and his fiancé just broke their engagement.”  Mom saw an opportunity. Surely he could be a match for one of her girls ranging from 28 to 40.

NEAL
by Lauri Fraser

You know those friends that come into your life and you hang out allot and then suddenly you don’t see them anymore, but they leave an impression that stays with you for life?  Well that was Neal. Neal was my mountain bike and ski buddy. He could see the easy in everything and what’s more, he inspired me to see it too. “Come on”, he’d say, “That’s not hard. Maybe for them, but not for us. You can do it.  I know you can.”  He would take  away my fear and replaced it with excitement .He  earned  his living as a fashion photographer who photos had graced the pages of Vogue and Bizarre magazine. He loved being a photographer but in recent years had trouble finding work. He was a cool but sloppy dresser.  He’d wear an expensive trendy shirt but there’d be a stain on it. Oh, he put it on clean.  He’d just stain it early on in the evening. Neal was a dipper rather than a spiller. He dipped while he talked and you could almost bet when that salsa was going to  fall off the chip......
